On-the-farm
We’re back. Our family was all together here for Christmas, and Monday we went to Chris’ family reunion. Lots of family, lots of good fun, lots of food. A good time had by all! Hope you had a great holiday season so far. The New Year is yet to come…

It’s going to be somewhat strange to be delivering your CSA boxes in the city on New Years Eve this year. I don’t think we’ve ever done that before. But it’s been two weeks, and will be two more after, so we figured we’d at least give it a try. You still have to eat, right?

Sam and I tore all the old electrics out of our packing shed, removed all the stuff up in the trusses, emptied out much of the packing shed, and got started putting up the new wiring and ceiling. We’re only about a quarter of the way done. I work slow where electricity is involved.  The ceiling so far looks great. I think it’s going to be a big improvement. Alas, it’s time to pack orders again, so we spent the day today putting the shed back the way it needs to be for working with produce. Next Monday we’ll get it all torn up again and continue on our way. Pictures will follow so you can see what we’ve done.

Schedule
Below are the specific dates we will be delivering this winter. You order the Wednesday (or early Thurs. morning) before.

DEC: 3, 17, 31.  JAN: 14, 28.  FEB: 11, 25.  MAR: 10, 24.  APR: 7, 21

This week’s planned produce list

• Apples: Fuji, Golden Delicious, Pink Lady, Stayman, Apple-a-Day mix.
• Greens: arugula, Asian greens mix, cabbage, lettuce (3 kinds), microgreens mix, mesclun mix, baby spinach, stir fry mix, Swiss chard.
• Veggies: beets (red & Chioggia), carrots (orange & multi-color), celeriac, garlic (green & cured bulbs), Jerusalem artichokes, leeks, onions (red & yellow), parsnips, potatoes (Kennebec & Russian Banana), radishes (watermelon), rutabaga, shallots, sweet potatoes, turnips (purple-top, sweet white, turnip soup pack), winter squash (acorn, butternut & seconds).
• Mushrooms: Shiitake only this week. The holiday schedule messed up the delivery schedule and shiitakes are all that are available. Sorry.
• Herbs: cilantro, dill, parsley, rosemary, savory.
• Other food items: eggs, chicken, butter, cheese, preserves.
• Firewood: kindling & logs.

Harvest Box contents
This week’s box contents are planned to be Green leaf lettuce, a stir-fry mix, carrots, onions, Russian Banana fingerling potatoes, a large rutabaga, sweet potatoes (2#), a sprig or two of rosemary, and 2 fuji and 2 pink lady apples.
