Farm News: Week of Saturday, December 17, 2011
On-the-farm
We are starting to get into the every-other-week groove. It has been very welcome to have a week where I could not spend so much time at the computer.
Sam and I have begun work to “winterize” our packing shed. That is the concrete block building that houses our coolers and all our work stations for cleaning, portioning and packing your orders. In the winter it is sometimes well below freezing when we go in there to work (this morning it was about 15 degrees outside, and 22 in the packing shed). We are going to install a metal ceiling, blow in insulation over that, install a propane heater, install better lighting so we can see what we’re doing, and see if that makes working in the winter any better! Hopefully if we are more comfortable and can see what we’re doing, we’ll do a better job with our produce and your orders!
